Lights Out For Birds

Millions of birds will be passing through cities and states this migration season. 7 million alone in one evening through the Rocky Mountain region. Excessive lights from tall buildings, atriums, gardens, windows, etc. can throw birds off their migration routes which causes disorientation, collisions and death for many migrating birds. Some simple solutions are to turn off exterior decorative lighting, if you live in a high story building, remember to keep lights to a minimum in the evening hours. It is important for these migrators to reach their wintering grounds. Warblers, thrushes, hummingbirds are just a few that can really benefit from a lights out approach.
